Items to be considered due to advances in genetics and technology-
-Is artificially inseminating, bearing, birthing and growing a clone that has no brain unethical?
Is it socially, developmentally, educationally, and/or medically valuable?
Should old people be allowed to buy blood from young people? Organs? Tissues for culture?
If we could live forever should we? Who should be "preserved" first?
To what extent should we allow human genetic engineering? It will occur, somewhere and somehow. If a human is found to have been engineered what then? or a fetus?
Can we tell when Artificial intelligence could be dangerous to us?
To what level should ‘bots (software and hardware) be autonomous? How should those limits be enforced? Should ‘bots be allowed to reproduce themselves? Network?
If we allow certain cultures to experiment with these developments, when will they be a separate species? Can a rogue nation be invaded to prevent tech or gene developments deemed unsafe/illegal?
People once warred and emigrated for religious freedom, will they do the same for scientific freedoms? The spectrum of ethics in research is bound to be wide and only consistent around extinction risks.
As these techs develop, WMD’s and extinction level threats will be able to be made by individuals. How will we contain this threat or limit humanity’s exposure to this risk?
Education? constant monitoring? programmed safeties in genes, software or ‘bot capability?
Should your local university be allowed to offer genetic enhancements to those willing to undergo the risks?
Are tailored Bio-weapons ethical? We only kill the violent? The dominant political faction of an enemy country? Just the leaders?
Is psychological monitoring of students in schools invasion of privacy? If we identify an at-risk youth (active shooter, psychopath, sociopath, impulse control w/oppositional defiance disorder) are we responsible to act? Do we have the right to intervene if the family doesn’t take what we consider to be appropriate steps?
Is it ethical to keep my life savings when it could save the lives of dozens or even hundreds of people somewhere in the world? Would I give up that money to save my neighbors family? Why does distance make selfishness ok?
How do you decide what is worth doing in life? If we subtract all the family, social, cultural values and can separate from 'animal instinct', what is then worth doing?
Is cultural appropriation wrong? Is it exploitative and if so how is that different from other profit making cultural events?
What is the logic behind legal sentencing for crimes? For example, death vs. life in prison vs. 5 years in prison. Why are certain crimes so abhorrent (child murder) or acceptable (crimes of 'passion')? Why is a murder due to neglect so much less 'criminal' than intentional murder?
Why haven't humans as a species done mre work to secure the survival of the species given many historical examples of extinction?
